• SILVER RAIN GAMES IS NOW SURGENT STUDIOS

Silver Rain Games is rebranding as Surgent Studios with a new logo and the same determination to deliver immersive, illuminating and inspiring stories. Currently in development on an original game in partnership with EA Originals, Surgent Studios will now dive into other forms of media from film and television to podcasts and beyond. The company is headed up by founder and CEO Abubakar Salim, a BAFTA-nominated actor who was recently announced as a new cast member in HBO's House of the Dragon.

"With the launch of Surgent Studios, we embark on a journey I could only hope would be possible when Silver Rain Games began four years ago. By creating rich storyworlds to explore across nearly any medium, we are truly entering an exciting new age of storytelling."

    AN ACTOR'S TAKE ON STORIES

Prior to his casting on HBO's House of the Dragon, Surgent Studios founder and CEO Abubakar Salim starred as Father in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves. He’s known for playing Bayek of Siwa in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and he also appears in Amazon Prime’s The Legend of Vox Machina. A writer and producer besides, Abubakar’s passion for storytelling led him to found Silver Rain Games (now Surgent Studios) in 2019, securing a major partnership with Electronic Arts in 2021.

With production on their original game well under way, Surgent Studios now branches out into film with a series of shorts co-produced with talented filmmakers from across the globe. Through Surgent Studios, Salim is also executive producing Canadian actress, filmmaker and producer Caitlyn Sponheimer’s feature directorial debut Wild Goat Surf featuring Shayelin Martin (American Gods, Workin’ Moms), Leandro Guedes (Lost Ollie, A Million Little Things) and Dyllón Burnside (Pose, Thoughts of a Colored Man).

Transmedia: storytelling for the modern age

To date, all of the films produced by Surgent Studios are standalone stories honing in on potent, universally-resonant human truths. Moving forward, the studio will also begin to introduce projects across multiple types of media which are all set in the same original universe conceived and developed by Salim and the Surgent Studios team. These projects will radiate out from this central source, using the storyworld’s setting, mythology and history as the underlying structure for each separate narrative.

Surgent Studios’ flagship storyworld is set to be announced later this year, with the first project set in this world following shortly after.

Surgent Studios brings a pioneering philosophy to storytelling across film, television, games and emerging platforms.
